Former Brookside star Robert Beck joins the cast of Hollyoaks and will be first seen on screen next week.

Former Brookside and Emmerdale actor Robert Beck has joined the cast of Hollyoaks in the role of dodgy businessman Fergus Collins.

The actor, who has been married to Coronation Street's Jane Danson since 2005, played Peter Harrison on Brookside - filmed on the set now used by Hollyoaks - from 1991 to 1993.

Fergus is the former business partner of Brad (Tom Benedict Knight) and ex-boyfriend of Trish (Denise Welch) and will arrive in Hollyoaks village next week with a proposal for a new venture.

"I'm over the moon to be given this opportunity," said Beck. "I couldn't really feel more at home, especially having started my career here with Brookside.

"Everyone has been so welcoming, including many old faces who were around in my Brookie days.

"Fergus is a lovely character to play... He's cheeky, but he's a man you really wouldn't want as an enemy, and to be honest... you would probably have to be pretty careful if he was your friend..."

Hollyoaks continues weeknights on Channel 4 and E4.
