Jurassic World: Dominion - Everything we know so far

A full guide to the upcoming final movie in the Jurassic World trilogy, Jurassic World: Dominion.

What is Jurassic World: Dominion?

Jurassic World: Dominion is the final film in the Jurassic World trilogy - a sequel to 2015's Jurassic World and 2018's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The three movies are in themselves sequels to the Jurassic Park trilogy, first released between 1993 and 2001.

Who is in it?

Key characters from both trilogies will finally unite in Dominion, with World stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard back as Owen Grady and Claire Dearing respectively.

Jeff Goldblum reprised his role as Dr Ian Malcolm for a brief cameo at the end of Fallen Kingdom but is back as a main star this time round, while Sam Neill and Laura Dern - last seen in Jurassic Park 3 - are also back on board.

Other returnees include Justice Smith and Daniella Pineda - Claire's colleagues in Fallen Kingdom - as well as Omar Sy, aka Owen's right-hand man from World, and Jake Johnson as Claire's colleague Lowery from the first film. Isabella Sermon, who played young girl Maisie Lockwood - later revealed to be a clone - will also feature.

Finally, no new movie would be complete without the return of BD Wong as the shady Dr Henry Wu.

What do we know about the plot?

The new movie will pick up following the events of Fallen Kingdom, which saw the auction go disastrously wrong with the release of multiple dinosaurs into the outside world. The final scenes of the film saw Dr Malcolm declaring the start of a "Neo-Jurassic age", with dinosaurs living alongside humans.

That new reality will be in full flow in Dominion, as explained by writer/director Colin Trevorrow recently: "A dinosaur might run out in front of your car on a foggy backroad, or invade your campground looking for food. A world where dinosaur interaction is unlikely but possible - the same way we watch out for bears or sharks. We hunt animals, we traffic them, we herd them, we breed them, we invade their territory and pay the price, but we don't go to war with them."

Following the revelation about Maisie in the last film, the consequences of genetic manipulation are expected to feature heavily. "We didn't want to continue to make movies about the dangers of messing with science," Trevorrow said. "We want to tell a story about where we are now, which is that we have we have messed with science, we have fundamentally altered our world and now we're dealing with the consequences."

Little else is known about the plot of Dominion and what exactly the battle for the main characters will be, but Trevorrow has insisted that the fear of dinosaurs will not lessen. "My goal with this trilogy is, when you reach the very end, to have the very first line that Claire ever says, 'No-one is impressed by a dinosaur anymore,' to be proven completely false. That's my goal."

How is production coming along?

Filming began in Canada in February before moving to Pinewood Studios in the UK, where the majority of the shoot will take place. Production came to a screeching halt in mid-March, however, as the UK entered lockdown amid the coronavirus pandemic with around 20% of scenes shot.

The movie now has the green light to continue, with filming on course to resume at Pinewood in the first week of July. A budget of around £4 million is being spent on making the production safe, with regular coronavirus tests for cast and crew in addition to the introduction of a new private medical team.

Additional scenes will be shot in Hawaii and Malta before filming wraps at some point in October.

When is the film due for release?

Jurassic Park: Dominion is scheduled for worldwide release on June 11, 2021 and there are no indications yet that this date will change despite the production delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Is this the end of the Jurassic World franchise?

Unless Dominion bombs, absolutely not.

Producer Frank Marshall has recently suggested that Dominion could kickstart a brand new trilogy, revealing: "It's the start of a new era. The dinosaurs are now on the mainland amongst us, and they will be for quite some time, I hope."
