The BBC orders two Eurovision-themed documentaries ahead of this year's contest in May.

The BBC has ordered two Eurovision-themed documentaries ahead of this year's contest in May.

The UK will be hosting the event in Liverpool on behalf of 2022 winners Ukraine, who are unable to host due to the ongoing invasion by Russia.

A one-off programme called The Greatest Show on Earth will celebrate 25 years since the UK last hosted Eurovision by giving 25 reasons why the contest is so beloved around the world, using archive footage and fresh interviews with Eurovision legends.

The second programme is called And The Winner Isn't, which celebrates the Eurovision hopefuls who failed to win but went on to achieve great success regardless.

"As the excitement builds for this year's Contest, we are looking forward to getting things started with these special programmes," said Rachel Ashdown, Eurovision commissioner at the BBC.

"They will remind fans of all their favourite moments and be the ultimate guide for people who want to find out more about what the Eurovision Song Contest is all about. These new shows are just a taster of much more to come."

Both programmes will go out on BBC One in May.
