A special scene paying tribute to The Queen played out before the title sequence in tonight's episode of EastEnders.

The monarch died at the age of 96 on Thursday at her home in Balmoral following a short illness, marking the end of an historic 70-year stint on the throne.

EastEnders is renowned for referencing topical events in the soap with specially-shot last-minute scenes, most recently last month when England Women triumphed at Euro 2022.

The scene broadcast tonight featured Linda (Kellie Bright), Denise (Diane Parish) and Kathy (Gillian Taylforth) in the Queen Vic reflecting on The Queen's death, with Linda placing a picture of her on the bar.

"It just feels so personal, just devastating," Kathy says. "It's like we have lost our nan."

Linda replies: "We have, we have all lost our nan. She dedicated her entire life to serving us."

The trio then discuss the Silver Jubilee of 1977 and the most recent Platinum Jubilee, which saw Prince Charles - now King Charles III - visit Walford with his wife Camilla.

Linda then placed the picture of the Queen next to the bust of Victoria, remarking: "Thank you Ma'am, from us all."
