Danny Dyer has appeared to criticise his final years on EastEnders, suggesting that producers "fucked it up" with his storylines.

The actor left his role as Mick Carter on the soap after nine years last Christmas Day, with the character apparently drowning in the English Channel after a high-speed car chase.

Talking at a special 'In Conversation' event at the BFI, Dyer admitted that he was initially loving his part on the show but had "had enough" by the end.

"The first few years we fucking smashed it. It was powerful shit," he said, in quotes reported by The Sun. "The viewer listened to us more than these fucking c**t politicians.

"I was blessed with some amazing storylines, some shite ones as well.

"They fucked it up towards the end. It's a shame it had to come to an end but I'd fucking had enough."

Dyer is now working on Rivals, a Jilly Cooper adaptation for Disney+, and is also rumoured to be in talks about making a sequel to The Football Factory.
