Musical theatre legend Ruthie Henshall will make a guest appearance on Coronation Street for a short stint, it has been announced.
The 55-year-old actress suggested on social media last month that she was filming a role on the soap and now she has been confirmed for the part of Estelle, an old friend of Glenda Shuttleworth - played by fellow musical theatre star Jodie Prenger.
The characters used to work together singing on cruise ships and after reminiscing about their time on board, Estelle tries to convince Glenda to invest in her theatre school franchise Little Big Shotz.
"This is one of the most enjoyable guest roles of my career," said Henshall. "Everyone is so welcoming and I can't believe after years of the street being in my life that I finally get to tread the cobbles.
"Getting to act with Jodie was a joy and every member of the cast was welcoming and kind.
"Estelle is delighted to find her old friend Glenda and share a show tune or two to remember times spent entertaining on board cruises.
"I am so excited and delighted to be on the street where so many brilliant actors strut, and have strutted, their stuff."
Henshall's first appearance as Estelle will come in the episode airing on April 3.
