Stephanie Beacham is to reprise her role as Martha Frazer on Coronation Street, 13 years after the character was last seen on the cobbles.
Martha is one of a long line of Ken Barlow (Bill Roache)'s ex lovers - and their fling almost led to his marriage to Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) breaking down again.
The return of Martha comes soon after that of Wendy (Roberta Kerr) - another marriage-wrecker for Ken and Deirdre who recently re-entered Ken's life and rekindled their relationship.
The storyline sees Martha make a surprise appearance to help out with the Weatherfield Am Dram production, and before too long Ken finds himself caught up in a love triangle.
"I was delighted when Wendy came back into Ken's life," said Roache. "I love that the writers are drawing on the rich history of Ken's life to come up with these stories.
"When I found out that Martha was also going to make a return I was thrilled, but I fear heartache may be round the corner once more for Ken now he has found himself in another love triangle."
Beacham added: "I am delighted that Martha has returned to Weatherfield. It is an absolute joy to be working with Bill again."
Martha's return will be seen in the episode airing on November 23.
