Former Coronation Street star Matthew Marsden becomes American citizen

Ex-Coronation Street star Matthew Marsden reveals that he has become an American citizen, some 22 years after he left the ITV soap.

Matthew Marsden has revealed that he became an American citizen in a ceremony on Tuesday.

The 47-year-old actor, who is originally from West Bromwich, got his break playing mechanic Chris Collins on Coronation Street between 1997 and 1998 and went on to appear in movies such as Rambo, Resident Evil: Extinction and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Marsden has been living in the States for years and now resides in Los Angeles with his wife Nadine and their young children.

Posting on social media late on Tuesday, he wrote: "For those of you that follow me and know how much I love the USA.... I want you to know that I am now officially an American citizen!"

It is unclear whether Marsden has renounced his British citizenship as part of the process, which requires participants to pledge allegiance to the American flag, or if he will hold dual nationality.

Marsden's stint on Coronation Street is currently being rebroadcast on ITV3 on weekday afternoons.
