Coronation Street star Ryan Prescott has said that his character Ryan is determined to get "ripped" by taking steroids in order to please his new online fanbase.
Earlier this year Ryan was the victim of a horrendous acid attack by Justin (Andrew Still), leaving him with significant psychological trauma and facial scarring.
He has been given a confidence boost by posting faceless pictures of his body online, however, and he will soon take that to the next level by creating X-rated content to earn money.
As part of his fitness regime he has turned to ordering steroids over the internet, and in Friday night's episode he felt the consequences as he collapsed during a run.
"He starts to feel strange and he can't slow his breathing down," explained Prescott. "And then his head goes, he falls to the ground. That's when Gary (Mikey North) sees him and pulls him to one side and sits him down on the bench.
"It is a mixture of too much caffeine and the steroids as he has also been drinking energy drinks. That's what he blames it on with Gary, he tells him it is the energy drinks. But it's definitely the chemicals in his body becoming overwhelming.
"Steroids don't necessarily make you pass out or anything like that. They can do a lot of things to your hormones and when you've got a hormonal imbalance, there's different things that can happen with your blood sugar, and stuff like that.
"So he's killing the caffeine, and he's not really having much carbs because he's trying to lose weight so we can look more ripped on camera. There's all these little factors that contribute into little incidents like this. He's determined to find that place and find that gratification."
Next week's episodes will also see the steroids having an effect on his temper as he lashes out at his aunt Carla, throwing a glass across the room and shouting in her face.
