Channel 4 announces a new deal with Sky keeping Formula 1 coverage with the broadcaster through the 2023 season.

Channel 4 has announced a new agreement with Sky for continued FTA coverage of Formula 1 next season.

The news comes days after Sky reached a new long-term deal with F1 to retain rights in the UK and Ireland until the end of 2029.

Under the deal, C4 will show highlights of every F1 qualifier and race in the record-breaking 24-event calendar for 2023, as well as live coverage of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on July 9.

Alex Mahon, chief executive of Channel 4, said: "It's fantastic news that motorsport fans will be able to follow all the action during the 2023 Formula 1 season on free to air television thanks to this latest deal with Sky.

"Our strong, long-standing relationship with our excellent partner Sky has delivered some fantastic moments for viewers. Last year's thrilling Formula 1 season finale between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, England's dramatic win at the 2019 Cricket World Cup and Betfred Super League rugby have all been made available to British audiences on free to air television thanks to our close working relationship with Sky, and it's great to see this continuing into 2023."

The current F1 season continues this weekend in Japan when Max Verstappen is on course to secure his second successive world title.
