BT "in no rush" over resolution for BT Sport

BT
Philip Jansen, chief executive of BT, says that the company is "in no rush" to resolve the future of BT Sport.

BT chief executive Philip Jansen has said that the company is "in no rush" to resolve the future of its BT Sport operation.

Earlier this year it emerged that BT had appointed an investment bank to look at possible opportunities for BT Sport, including an outright sale or reforming it as a joint venture, as the company instead shifts focus to delivering full fibre broadband around the UK.

A number of potential suitors emerged, including Disney, ITV and Amazon, although in recent weeks the ever-growing streaming service DAZN has reportedly become the firm favourite to buy up the operation.

Asked for an update by investors on Thursday, Jansen revealed that talks are ongoing with "a small handful" of firms, adding: "It is complicated, as ever... we are in no rush."

BT Sport has the rights to a number of key properties in the UK, including a portion of Premier League games, exclusive coverage of the Champions League, Ligue 1 and the Serie A, as well as Gallagher Premiership rugby.
