Davina McCall: 'No news on Big Brother return'

Original Big Brother host Davina McCall says that she has not "even heard a rumbling" about a potential return of the reality series.

Original Big Brother host Davina McCall has admitted that she has heard no news about a potential return for the seminal reality show.

After 19 years on the air, the show was axed by Channel 5 in 2018 and has yet to return, despite sporadic rumours that it could come back at some point.

Last year McCall, who hosted BB between 2000 and 2010 in its Channel 4 era, fronted a well-received retrospective series for E4 but she has admitted that talk of a comeback has gone quiet since then.

"I haven't even heard a rumbling," she told The Sun. "We are just about to come out of lockdown so we've missed it, but this pandemic would be the most genius time to put 13 strangers into a house for 13 weeks, while the rest of us are also locked in.

"It's crazy. It would have been a great time, but that's been and gone. So I don't know. The [20th] anniversary was last year. So, we missed that.

"And I just, I just think it's a very expensive show to make and I know times are hard in television.

"We could really all do with that but I just don't know if it's going to happen."

Emma Willis, who hosted the show in its final years on Channel 5, recently said that she believes the format "needed a rest".
