Phil Gayle will reprise his role as newsreader for the upcoming one-off revival of The Big Breakfast.

Phil Gayle will read the news on the upcoming one-off revival of The Big Breakfast, it has been confirmed.

The iconic breakfast show is returning on September 10 as part of Channel 4's 'Black To Front' day of programming, where all shows in the schedule will feature black talent on and off screen.

Gayle, 57, served as newsreader on The Big Breakfast between 1997 and 2000 and now works as a presenter for the German station DW News.

Mo Gilligan has previously been named as the male host for the one-off special and now Channel 4 has confirmed that he will be joined by AJ Odudu, who hosted Don't Rock The Boat for ITV last year.

"I absolutely can't wait to get stuck into The Big Breakfast," she said. "It is such an iconic show to be part of and I am buzzing it is finally coming back!

"I'm so looking forward to working with Mo and I can't wait to wake up the nation!

"I'm thrilled to be part of Channel 4's Black to Front – which quite rightly gives a platform to deserving Black British TV talent across our industry, both on and off-screen. It's going to be really special."

The broadcaster has also revealed that the show will broadcast live from the original East London location, the Lock Keepers' Cottages near Bow Locks.
