Manchester United reportedly hold talks with the representatives of Bayer Leverkusen wing-back Jeremie Frimpong ahead of a potential summer move.

Manchester United have reportedly held talks with Bayer Leverkusen wing-back Jeremie Frimpong.

The Dutchman has been a key part of a Leverkusen side that recently clinched the Bundesliga title with a 5-0 win over Werder Bremen.

Frimpong has started 24 of his 28 Bundesliga appearances this season, scoring eight goals and providing eight assists.

Those contributions have helped Frimpong accumulate a total of 12 goals and 11 assists across 38 competitive matches this term.

Having impressed for Xabi Alonso's side, the 23-year-old has emerged as a potential target for a number of top Premier League clubs.

Local rivals Man United and Manchester City have both been linked with Frimpong, who is also believed to be on Liverpool's radar.

According to journalist Christian Falk, Man United have now held concrete talks with Frimpong's representatives over a potential summer move.

The report claims that Bayern Munich have also been in contact with the player's management, while Real Madrid have reportedly registered their interest in the Leverkusen full-back.

Although Frimpong is under contract until June 2028, he has a €40m (£34m) release clause which can be activated before the start of Euro 2024 in June.

Man United's search for a new right-back

Man United are seemingly keen to recruit a new defender to provide competition to their first-choice right-back Diogo Dalot.

The 25-year-old, who has also been used as a left-back, has started 29 of Man United's 32 Premier League games this season, contributing one goal and three assists.

Dalot's current deputy Aaron Wan-Bissaka has struggled with injury this term and could be allowed to leave the club this summer.

Frimpong would provide a greater attacking threat than Wan-Bissaka, having played as a wing-back for the majority of Leverkusen's title-winning season.

However, Frimpong has previously shown that he can operate in a slightly deeper role as a traditional full-back.
