Bayer Leverkusen cruise to three points against Werder Bremen

Bayer Leverkusen record back-to-back Bundesliga wins as they ease to a 3-0 win over Werder Bremen.

Bayer Leverkusen have recorded successive Bundesliga wins for the first time this season by cruising to a 3-0 win over Werder Bremen.

Leverkusen looked the more threatening of the sides for much of the first half, but they wasted an early opportunity when Jonathan Tah headed over from a corner after being gifted space to connect with the cross.

Anthony Ujah almost made him pay for the miss just a few moments later when he created space in the box before rattling the post.

The lead belonged to Leverkusen just after the half-hour mark when Admir Mehmedi came inside from the wing to find the back of the net with a an effort which took a big deflection off Assani Lukimya.

It could have been 2-0 before the break, but Giulio Donati was left frustrated when his powerful strike came back off the post.

Werder failed to change the pattern of the game in the early stages of the second half and Leverkusen capitalised to double the lead through Julian Brandt, who left Felix Wiedwald helpless with a stunning free kick.

Any doubts about the result were put to bed with over 20 minutes remaining when Kevin Kampl, who moved to Leverkusen from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, opened his account for the club by curling past Wiedwald from outside the box.

Stefan Kiessling should have added gloss to the scoreline late on when a patient move ended with the ball falling to the striker in the box, but he could only strike the post as Leverkusen settled for three on a comfortable afternoon for Roger Schmidt's side.
