ITV commissions Britain's Favourite Detective

ITV will count down the nation's 25 favourite fictional detectives in a one-off special airing later this year.

ITV will celebrate the best fictional crime detectives in a new one-off special airing later this year.

Britain's Best Detective will count down the nation's top 25 detectives, as determined by a pubic vote, over the course of two hours.

The programme will be put together using archive footage, according to Broadcast, and edited remotely while the coronavirus lockdown continues.

Sohail Shah, whose new indie Kings of Sunshine is producing the show, told the magazine: "Audiences love a murder mystery, and as our debut commission, I can't think of anything better than seeing which super-sleuth the British public thinks is the best."

Detectives in contention will include Sherlock Holmes - portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch in the BBC series Sherlock - as well as Inspector Morse and Vera Stanhope.
