The next season of Killing Eve will be the last, it is announced.

The upcoming fourth season of Killing Eve will be the last, it has been announced.

The drama thriller - favourite of the critics and recipient of numerous awards - will shortly begin filming on its final eight episodes following an extensive delay caused by coronavirus.

The final season is due to air early in 2022, although US network AMC did indicate that it might not quite be the end for all of the show's characters as it plans to "develop a number of potential spinoff ideas to extend the show's iconic universe".

Sandra Oh, who plays the eponymous character, said: "Killing Eve has been one of my greatest experiences and I look forward to diving back into Eve's remarkable mind soon.

"I'm so grateful for all cast and crew who have brought our story to life and to the fans who have joined us and will be back for our exciting and unpredictable fourth and final season."

Jodie Comer - aka the villainous Villanelle - added: "Killing Eve has been the most extraordinary journey and one that I will be forever grateful for. Thank you to all the fans who've supported us throughout and come along for the ride.

"Although all good things come to an end, it's not over yet. We aim to make this one to remember!"

The third season ended with Eve and Villanelle going their separate ways on London Bridge.
