Lorraine Kelly reacts to the news that Piers Morgan has stepped down as host of Good Morning Britain with immediate effect.

Lorraine Kelly has said that Good Morning Britain is "certainly going to be quieter" following Piers Morgan's resignation today.

A statement issued by ITV confirmed that the 55-year-old had quit the breakfast show after TV regulator Ofcom received more than 40,000 complaints against him in just a day.

The complaints came after he launched a scathing attack on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on Monday's edition of the show - and on today's episode, he walked off set after being confronted by colleague Alex Beresford for his remarks.

Kelly, whose show Lorraine airs directly after GMB, was on a pre-booked interview with The One Show when she was asked about the breaking news of his departure.

"To be honest, he did actually email me about 20 minutes ago, so that was the first that I'd heard of it," she revealed.

"He just said he's away, so yeah looks like he has. I don't know any more details than that. It's certainly going to be quieter.

"But do you know what, we all wish him well. We all wish him absolutely all the best, of course, we do. Like I say, it'll be calmer, I think."

Good Morning Britain continues tomorrow at 6am on ITV.
