Rula Lenska shades younger Coronation Street stars

Former Coronation Street star Rula Lenska appears to criticise the soap's younger cast members.

Former Coronation Street actress Rula Lenska has appeared to accuse the soap's younger stars of being precocious.

The veteran star, 72, bowed out from her role as Claudia Colby on the cobbles for a second time earlier this year, having first joined the soap in 2009.

Corrie is renowned for having a significant contingent of older cast members alongside its more youthful stars, and Lenska has hinted that her experience may not have been fully appreciated on set.

"Without meaning to sound up one's own rear end, I remember as a young actor being completely grateful for any sort of comment made to me by an older, more experienced actor," she told the Acting For Others podcast.

"Whether it was 'yes, that was great' or 'try this' or 'do a bit more of this' or 'do a bit less of this'.

"They are not terribly good at taking advice or helpful suggestions. One just swallows it and that's how things have changed."

She continued: "Most of the young television actors have had no theatrical experience at all.

"I shudder to think if you put them on a stage whether you'd be able to hear them and whether they'd be able to transfer their minimal performance into something that works on a grander scale."

Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm on ITV.
