The story of the third day of action at Roland Garros.

A miserable French Open for Britain's singles players was completed by a 7-6 (4) 6-4 defeat for Heather Watson against Fiona Ferro.

There was much better news for Novak Djokovic, who returned to grand slam action following his US Open disqualification with a 6-0 6-2 6-3 victory over Mikael Ymer.

Women's second seed Karolina Pliskova survived a battle against Mayar Sherif while Stefanos Tsitsipas came back from two sets down to beat Jaume Munar.

Mikael Ymer only took six games off Djokovic but he can dine out on this one for a long time.

Salah backing for Sherif

Sherif's achievements have attracted the attention of Liverpool and Egypt football star Mohamed Salah, who retweeted posts about her success.

Sherif, 24, said on rolandgarros.com: "It's very, very nice to get this kind of support from someone who is already very, very good, and someone who is very special from Egypt. Salah is someone who is one of a kind. So it's very nice, it made me feel like, 'Oh, someone important is following, thank God'."

Good things come

Fallen seeds
