Keri-Anne Payne has opened up about her performance in the women's 10km marathon this afternoon.
The Team GB swimmer admitted that today's medallists played her at her own game, holding the lead throughout and powering to the finish to push her into fourth.
She said: "It didn't go my way from the start unfortunately. I tried to get up a lead but they played me at my own game.
"The top 25 swimmers in the world are here so to come fourth is not too bad really - but it is not quite what I wanted for the crowd and the team that have supported me and worked so hard to get me here."
Payne attributed her failure to make the podium to her decision to take on fluids on the third lap.
Eva Risztov of Hungary won the gold medal, Haley Anderson of the United States took home silver, and Martina Grimaldi of Italy beat Payne to bronze.
