Victoria Pendleton to make amateur debut in July

Victoria Pendleton, who has switched from cycling to horse racing, will make her amateur jockey debut at Newbury in July.

Victoria Pendleton has announced that she will make her amateur jockey debut at a meeting at Newbury next month.

Earlier this year, Pendleton, a double Olympic cycling champion, started training to become a jockey and after over three months of training, she will feature in the George Frewer Charity Race at the Berkshire course on July 2.

Yogi Breisner, Pendleton's tutor, is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "It's a key milestone if we are to hit our target of Victoria successfully obtaining her Category A licence with a view to riding at Cheltenham next year."

Pendleton hopes to feature in the Foxhunter Chase, a race traditionally ran on the final day of the four-day festival, which is open to amateur riders.
