An EastEnders character meets their maker in a shock twist in this week's EastEnders.

Warning: This article contains spoilers about this week's episodes of EastEnders which some readers may prefer to avoid.

A former EastEnders regular has been killed off in this week's episodes in a surprise off-screen twist.

All four of this week's episodes have been made available on iPlayer this morning ahead of their transmission on BBC One - and the second episode contained the news that Jags Panesar (Amar Adatia) had been killed in prison.

In recent weeks, Kheerat (Jaz Deol) has been paying Ben (Max Bowden) to keep his brother safe on the inside but Ben was seen calling off the protection after spotting Kheerat getting cosy with Sharon (Letitia Dean).

The move had fatal consequences, however, as Suki (Balvinder Sopal) received a call from the prison to inform her that her son had died.

"The prison chaplain called me 10 minutes ago," she told Kheerat through tears. "Your brother was attacked in his cell. He's dead."

Future episodes show the Panesars attempting to come to term with their loss, while Ben attempts to cover his tracks after leaving Jags vulnerable.
