Denise Lewis given honorary degree from University of Wolverhampton

British Olympic gold medallist Denise Lewis receives an honorary degree from the University of Wolverhampton.

Olympic gold medallist Denise Lewis was given an honorary degree from the University of Wolverhampton this week.

The 42-year-old, who grew up in the area, was handed the honour for her services to athletics, 14 years after being given the freedom of the city.

"It is a privilege to be back in my city and to be recognised in this way is fantastic," the Express & Star quotes Lewis as saying. "I can't really put it into words but it is a proud moment. I travel all around the world but this is home and to be honoured once again is a great feeling."

Lewis won gold in the heptathlon for Great Britain at the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000.
