Adidas defends plunging neckline design on women's Manchester United shirts

Adidas defends the design of the women's Manchester United replica shirts after some fans described the plunging neckline as "sexist".

Manchester United's kit manufacturer Adidas has defended its decision to give the women's version of the club's shirt plunging necklines.

Via social media, many supporters described the low v-shaped neckline as "sexist" after the kit for the 2015-16 season was introduced at the weekend.

However, according to the Daily Mail, a spokesperson for Adidas defended the design by saying: "Adidas provides an adult shirt which is a replica of what the players wear.

"Based on research from fans, we also offer a women's shirt as part of our lifestyle range of products. This range has a slightly different design and fit to give fans a choice."

The former Premier League champions struck a deal worth £750m with the global sports brand in 2014 following a 13-year partnership with Nike.
