Kate Winslet admits that she is still uncertain over a potential second season of Mare of Easttown.

Kate Winslet has revealed that she is uncertain whether Mare of Easttown will return for a second season.

The show - originally conceived as a one-off miniseries - was a critical and ratings hit when it aired earlier this year, prompting creator Brad Ingelsby to explore potential storylines for a sequel.

Winslet, who also served as executive producer, won an Emmy Award for her portrayal of the eponymous Mare last night and admitted afterwards that the show's future remains unclear.

"I honestly don't have a clear answer," she told E!. "I mean, there have been conversations about it, of course, because the success of the show really did surprise us all. And then somehow it became this cultural moment, this zeitgeist moment that captured people's attention in a really remarkable way.

"But I think until scripts are in place that we can really respond to and know what a full story of a season two might be and also where Mare goes."

HBO chief Casey Bloys recently revealed that he expects a decision over the show's future imminently.
