Jack Thorne says that "there isn't much space" for a follow-up to his Channel 4 drama Help.

Jack Thorne has ruled out the possibility of making a follow-up to his Channel 4 drama Help.

The two-hour film, which aired tonight, stars Jodie Comer as a Liverpool care home worker doing her best to look after patients, including a young Alzheimer's sufferer played by Stephen Graham, during the coronavirus pandemic.

The one-off piece has earned much praise from critics, in particular for the on-screen chemistry between Comer and Graham, but creator Thorne says that he is unlikely to revisit their characters in future.

"I think this story needs to be told in this way," he said at a press screening last week. "And then the hope is always that is not the only care home drama - the hope is that there is a spate of dramas about social care.

"But I don't think we've got any more to tell about these two and I think where we leave them, there isn't much space for them to have much more time together.

"I don't know what their futures will be but I don't think their futures involve each other sadly."

Graham said that he is keen to work with Comer and Thorne again though, adding: "We did make an agreement to bring the band back together a couple of years down the line with a completely different story with completely different characters, so there's that possibility."

Help is available now on All 4.
