GB News enjoys a strong first full day of broadcasting, almost averaging as many viewers as its 32-year-old rival Sky News.

New news channel GB News enjoyed a strong first full day of broadcasting in ratings terms, according to overnight figures.

The new service, which focuses on debate programming rather than rolling news, launched on Sunday night with a peak of over 330,000 viewers.

Yesterday - the channel's first full day on air - was marred by multiple technical difficulties but nevertheless it managed to maintain decent viewing figures throughout the day.

Andrew Neil's flagship show was the most-watched programme of the day, with 153,000 (0.9%) in the 8pm hour, while Michelle Dewberry's Dewbs & Co. launched to 135,000 (0.9%) between 6pm and 8pm.

Also performing well was the breakfast show with 79,200 - and an impressive 2.5% share - between 6am and 9am.

Overall, GB News averaged 74,100 viewers between 6am and midnight, a whisker behind 32-year-old rival Sky News's 78,000 but just over half of the BBC News channel's 138,400.
