Mendip council grants Glastonbury organisers a licence to hold an event at Worthy Farm in September.

Glastonbury organisers have been given approval to hold a one-day event at Worthy Farm in September, it has been announced.

The legendary music festival was cancelled in 2020 and again this year because of coronavirus but improving conditions have made a smaller event possible.

In granting permission, Mendip council have attached numerous conditions - including a strict limit of 49,999 people on site and no overnight camping.

The licence allows the festival to be held over one weekend on a Friday and/or Saturday, although organisers have previously asserted that it will be staged on just one day - most likely a Saturday.

As part of the conditions, Mendip council require 120 days' notice of the event - suggesting possible dates of September 18 or September 25.

Despite permission being granted, the Glastonbury organisers have not yet confirmed that they will proceed with an event and will now look at logistics and possible performers before announcing a final decision.
