EastEnders announces details of a far-right storyline involving Aaron Monroe.

EastEnders have confirmed details of a new far-right storyline that will play out on the soap into the new year.

In recent weeks viewers have seen newcomer Aaron Monroe (Charlie Wernham)'s outspoken views and dark side increasingly come to the fore.

Dad Harvey (Ross Boatman) is the only one who seems to know about his son's extremist tendencies and recently covered for him after he got involved in a bloody fight on a night out.

In the coming weeks Aaron's affiliation with a far-right group will lead to devastating consequences, however, with new character Neil (Thomas Coombes) having a key influence in proceedings.

EastEnders executive producer Jon Sen said: "EastEnders has a history of telling challenging yet prescient stories which reflect the world.

"Far-right thinking and ideas have been on the rise over past five years with the several communities coming under attack.

"We wanted to take a fresh look at the faulty logic of those who fall prey to the far-right ideologies and tell a powerful story about a family who have an extremist in their midst."

The storyline has been developed in conjunction with Exit UK, a group of former far-right members who encourage others to leave.
