Sky owner Comcast unveils the XiOne, a device that is expected to launch in the UK later this year offering Sky Q subscriptions without the need for a satellite dish.

Sky's US owner Comcast has unveiled a new streaming device that is expected to arrive in the UK later this year.

Known as the XiOne in the US, the new device will allow customers to effectively receive a Sky Q service over an internet connection without the need for a satellite dish.

The service is already up and running for Sky customers in Germany and Italy and is expected to be formally unveiled in the UK market early next month.

The device is loaded with the latest technology, including WiFi 6, 4K UHD, HDR, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, and comes with a slimmed-down remote designed with streaming users in mind.

As well as linear streamed channels, the new box is expected to come with all of the top apps, such as BBC iPlayer, Peacock and Netflix, from launch.

Meanwhile, Comcast has also partnered with Walmart and Hisense in the US to launch its own range of branded smart TVs later this year.
