Channel 4 orders a three-part documentary recounting the 1997 US trial of British nanny Louise Woodward, who was accused of murdering a child.

Channel 4 has announced a three-part documentary about Louise Woodward, the British nanny who was accused of murdering an eight-month old baby in the US in 1997.

In a case that garnered mass attention on both sides of the Atlantic, the 19-year-old was initially found guilty of killing the child, but the jury's conviction was ultimately thrown out by the judge and she was released from prison.

The documentary, Louise Woodward: Villain or Victim?, will recount the events of Woodward's case and feature interviews with the key players involved.

Fatima Salaria of production company Naked said: "The media circus around this story means it has remained in the public consciousness for over 20 years.

"With the opportunity to look back with fresh eyes alongside exclusive access to both sides of the story, this documentary offers a new perspective on the case."

News of Channel 4's project comes months after ITV announced its own one-off film for broadcast in 2022.
