Sunset Studios to open £700m facility in Hertfordshire
Hollywood studio Sunset Studios announces plans for a new £700m site in Hertfordshire.

Hollywood studio Sunset Studios has revealed plans to open a new $1 billion (£700m) film and TV site in Hertfordshire.

The new facility - Sunset's first expansion outside of the US, where it has four sites - will be located around 17 miles from central London in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire.

The firm has spent around £120m on purchasing a 91-acre site and will ultimately spend around £700m on the project, creating 4,500 jobs and generating £300m a year for the local economy.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson welcomed the announcement, saying in a statement: "This investment is excellent news for the UK's film and TV industry, pumping hundreds of millions of pounds into the local economy and creating thousands of jobs for the people of Hertfordshire.

"The creative industries are at the heart of our plans to build back better. This will be a hub for both UK and international productions, showcasing home-grown talent on the global stage."

Sunset's new studio will provide competition for Leavesden, home of Harry Potter, as well as Pinewood and Elstree.
