Sky Sports poaches Bundesliga rights in four-year deal

Sky Sports becomes the new home of the Bundesliga in the UK, taking the rights from BT Sport in a four-year deal.

Sky Sports has taken the rights to the Bundesliga from BT Sport in a four-year deal, it has been announced.

Coverage will begin on August 13 with the opening game of the season, champions Bayern Munich's trip to Borussia Monchengladbach, and will be followed by Borussia Dortmund - team of superstar Erling Braut Haaland - taking on Eintracht Frankfurt on August 14.

As part of the deal, the main fixture each week - the Saturday 5.30pm kickoff - will be shown live on Sky Sports Football, with other games being shown across the Sky Sports channels and YouTube.

"We're delighted to have acquired the rights to the Bundesliga," said Jonathan Licht, MD at Sky Sports. "Sky Sports customers will have the opportunity to watch some of the best players in the world as well as some of the leading teams in Europe.

"This new four-year agreement adds to our football offering in the UK & Ireland which already includes Premier League, EFL, Scottish Premiership and FA Women's Super League as well as international action in the form of World Cup Qualifiers, placing Sky Sports as the home of live football."

Sky has also taken the rights to the German Supercup and will broadcast this year's tie - Bayern against Dortmund - on Tuesday, August 17.
