Becky Downie proud of Team GB's display in final

Great Britain's Becky Downie says that the team "could not have done any more" as they finished in fifth position in the women's team final.

Great Britain's Becky Downie has said that she is proud of the team's performance in the women's final at the Olympic Games.

Downie, her sister Ellie, Ruby Harrold, Claudia Fragapane and Amy Tinkler could only finish in fifth position as USA won gold in impressive style, but Downie had nothing but praise for their display on Tuesday evening.

The 24-year-old told reporters: "I couldn't have done too much more. I was fighting towards the end of that today but overall I'm really happy. It's the team final so there is quite a lot of pressure going up there.

"The whole thing has been an amazing experience and exactly what I hoped. The team has done an amazing job and I'm just really proud of the girls.

"I think Glasgow did set the expectation and we knew it wasn't going to be easy here. We've all upgraded our routines since Glasgow and got more but the level of gymnastics has gone up again and we couldn't have done any more. It wasn't quite what we did at the Worlds but I'm still really proud of everybody."

Russia and China finished in second and third place respectively.
