Europe surge into three-point lead after day one of EurAsia

Darren Clarke's Europe surge into a 4.5-1.5 lead after day one of the EurAsia Cup in Kuala Lumpur.

Europe have taken early control of the EurAsia Cup by winning the first day 4.5-1.5 at the Glenmarie Golf & Country Club in Kuala Lumpur.

Darren Clarke is testing out his captaincy skills ahead of the Ryder Cup against the USA later this year and will be delighted with his team's efforts on day one in Malaysia.

Ian Poulter and Bernd Wiesberger beat Anirban Lahiri and Wang Jeung-hun 4&3 for the first point of the day and Ross Fisher and Kristoffer Broberg quickly doubled the lead, seeing off Prayad Marksaeng and KT Kim 6&4.

Asia's first point of the contest arrived when Byeong-Hun An and Thongchai Jaidee came from behind to beat Yorkshire duo Danny Willett and Matt Fitzpatrick 3&1.

Shane Lowry and Andy Sullivan restored Europe's two-point advantage with a 2&1 success over Wu Ashun and Shingo Katayama before the first halved match between Soren Kjeldsen and Victor Dubuisson and Danny Chia and Nicholas Fung.

Europe went three up in the final match of the day as Chris Wood and Lee Westwood overcame Kiradech Aphibarnrat and SSP Chawrasia 2&1.
