The BBC reveals that the new series of Strictly Come Dancing will begin on Saturday, September 18.

The BBC has confirmed that the new series of Strictly Come Dancing will begin on Saturday, September 18.

The ballroom contest will begin with the annual launch show, which will see the 15 celebrities discover the identity of their professional partners.

That programme is being pre-recorded on September 11 for broadcast a week later, while the live performance shows will get underway on Saturday, September 25.

Strictly will then air on BBC One every week until the live grand final on Saturday, December 18 - one week before Christmas, which will herald the return of the festive special.

Among the celebrities taking part this year are Team GB swimmer Adam Peaty, EastEnders actor Rose Ayling-Ellis, McFly's Tom Fletcher and Dragons' Den star Sara Davies.
