Tommy Dorfman, star of Netflix's 13 Reasons Why, comes out as a trans woman in a post on social media.

13 Reasons Why star Tommy Dorfman has come out as a trans woman in a post on social media.

The 29-year-old - Ryan Shaver in the Netflix drama - previously came out as non-binary in 2017 and said today that she is "thrilled to reintroduce myself as the woman i am today".

In an emotional post thanking her team for their support, she added: "i'm especially grateful to every single trans person who walked this path, broke down barriers, and risked their lives to live authentically and radically as themselves before me.

"thank you to all the trans woman that showed me who i am, how to live, celebrate myself, and take up space in this world."

In an interview with TIME Magazine, which also commissioned the pictures to accompany her social media post, Dorfman revealed that she has already undergone medical reassignment surgery and has no intention of changing her name.

The actress will next be seen in Sharp Stick, a mystery feature film from Lena Dunham.
