The Spanish government announces that UK tourists will be able to enter the country from Monday without the need for a coronavirus test.

Love Island looks set to return to Majorca this summer following the Spanish government's announcement of new travel guidelines.

The 2020 edition of the ITV2 ratings winner was cancelled because of coronavirus but is set to return for a new series at the end of June.

Producers have been aiming to stage the show in its usual home - a villa on the Balearic island of Majorca - although a back-up location in Jersey is believed to be on the cards should travel to Spain not be possible.

Last week the British government rolled out a new traffic light system for international travel and decided to place Spain on the amber list - meaning that travel should be avoided and those who do enter the UK from Spain must isolate for 10 days upon arrival and undergo testing.

Meanwhile, Spain has decided that UK citizens - on whom the country's tourist industry massively depends - will be able to enter the country from Monday without restriction.

Announcing the move, Spanish prime minister Pedro Sanchez said: "[We are] exempting citizens from the UK from temporary restrictions on non-essential trips to Spain.

"I can therefore announce that from next Monday the 24th of May we will be delighted to welcome all UK tourists.

"They are welcome to enter our country without restrictions and without health requirements."

The move also removes significant logistical headaches from the production of Love Island, meaning that crew and contestants will be able to travel freely to Majorca next month and may not even have to quarantine upon their return to the UK depending on what the rules are at the time the show is due to finish in August.

Producers are now thought to be in the final stages of deciding on the contestant lineup for the new series and are said to be keen to cast a significant number of bisexual islanders in order to boost the show's diversity.
