David Neilson will reportedly be back as Roy Cropper on Coronation Street over the Christmas period.

Roy Cropper will reportedly make a surprise return to Coronation Street this Christmas just weeks after he left the cobbles.

In scenes which aired last month, Roy - feeling guilty for lying to the police - signed over his business and assets to his niece Nina (Mollie Gallagher) before departing for a new life in South America.

According to The Sun, however, actor David Neilson has been seen back on set ahead of a "dramatic" return over the festive period.

"Fans were upset when they thought Roy had left but he's not going anywhere," a source said.

"David took a couple of weeks off but will be on screen again in a few weeks. Viewers are going to get quite a shock and he's set to be part of a dramatic storyline."

The character of Roy has been a firm fixture in Weatherfield for more than 26 years.
