Kate McKann leaves Sky to become talkTV's political editor
Kate McCann leaves Sky News to become the new political editor at talkTV.

Upcoming TV station talkTV has poached Kate McCann from Sky News for the position of political editor.

The new channel - due to launch in the coming months - comes from Rupert Murdoch's News UK, owner of media properties including The Sun, The Times, talkRADIO and Times Radio.

Piers Morgan will present talkTV's flagship evening programme, while earlier this week it was announced that Tom Newton Dunn will also host a nightly show.

Now McCann has been appointed as the channel's first political editor, a role she takes up after four years at Sky as a political correspondent.

"talkTV will be a new and distinctive voice in UK news and we're determined to bring top quality journalism and analysis to people in the way they want it," she said.

"I'm incredibly excited to be joining the launch team and to be part of something that will shake up how we think about political reporting. I can't wait to get stuck in."

Scott Taunton, News UK's chief exec of broadcasting, said: "Both on and off camera we are assembling a world-class team to bring talkTV to the nation, and Kate is the perfect choice as our Political Editor.

"One of the sharpest rising stars in the Lobby, her incisive analysis and ability to deliver world class scoops will add significant insight to our audience's understanding of the mechanics of Westminster."

Further on-air appointments are expected to be announced in the coming weeks as talkTV's launch date approaches.
