Wolverhampton Wanderers appoint Ian Cathro as a first-team coach ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have appointed Ian Cathro as a first-team coach ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.

Cathro, 31, was assistant manager to current Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo at Rio Ave in 2012, and the pair also worked together at Valencia.

Cathro has since been assistant manager at Newcastle United and head coach at Hearts, but has now linked up with Nuno once again as Wolves prepare for life in the Premier League.

"I am very excited about joining Wolves and looking forward to working with a coach and staff I know, trust and believe in," Cathro told the club's official website.

"All of us share the same footballing philosophy and that is such an important factor for a successful coaching team. Wolves is a fantastic club with a rich history and lots of potential, and I can't wait to get started."

Cathro and Nuno originally met at an SFA coaching course back in 2009.
