Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Nuno Espirito Santo refuses to be critical of his side after the Championship winners lost 3-0 to Sunderland.

Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has refused to be too critical of his team after the Championship winners lost 3-0 to Sunderland on the final day of the campaign.

The West Midlands outfit wrapped up promotion last month but despite having ambitions to reach 100 points, Nuno's side were well beaten by the bottom-of-the-table team.

However, despite the poor display at the Stadium of Light, the Portuguese preferred to focus on the club's achievements over the course of the season.

The 44-year-old told the club's official website: "I can't take anything away from my boys, they've been fantastic. We don't need to deeply analyse, we should do better but we did a fantastic job. The boys have worked really hard throughout the season and had fantastic moments, and we achieved what we wanted, we are champions and must be very proud.

"It was to do with the intensity. The players tried hard but sometimes you have to be really fair to them, a lot of players have played 50 games this season so let's be fair to each other. We got promoted a long time ago. Today we wanted to achieve a victory but it was not possible. Today wasn't the best image but doesn't take away from anything we did this season."

Wolves won the title by nine points to Cardiff City, who sealed the runners-up spot and second automatic promotion place with a draw against Reading on Sunday.
