Glenn Hughes, Robbie Keane closing in on Wolverhampton Wanderers purchase?

Deep Purple star Glenn Hughes suggests that he and Robbie Keane are close to a deal to purchase Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Deep Purple star Glenn Hughes has suggested that a deal for him to take over Wolverhampton Wanderers with former player Robbie Keane is edging closer.

In a surprise move, Wolves owner Steve Morgan put the club up for sale last September, leading to around 50 enquiries from interested parties.

Lifelong fan Hughes was pictured on Sunday night watching the Super Bowl with Keane, singer Boy George and New York Cosmos chairman Paul Kemsley, when he took to Twitter with a series of posts suggesting that he could be close to purchasing the Championship side.

"Stay tuned Wolves fans. I cannot comment at this very moment," he wrote. "No comment but... good times ahead for Wolves fans."

Replying to a user who asked if he is planning to buy the club, Hughes wrote: "All I can say brother is, watch this space, I cannot say anymore as I'm under oath."

Keane began his career at Molineux and has regularly attended Wolves games in recent years, although he has just signed a new one-year deal to keep playing with Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS.

According to the Express & Star, Wolves sources have said that there is "no substance" to the rumours of an imminent Hughes-Keane takeover, with the initial shortlist now thought to be whittled down to just ten.

Wolves currently sit 11th in the Championship, ten points adrift of the playoff places.
