Sam Allardyce hints at busy summer transfer window for Sunderland

Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce hints at a busy summer of signings for the club following their Premier League survival.

Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce has hinted that the club will be active in the transfer market this summer.

The Black Cats once again secured Premier League survival in the closing stages of the campaign this term, with just one defeat in their final 11 games enough to take them to safety.

Allardyce acknowledged that the uncertainty over their future made it difficult to identify targets, but he is now planning on bringing in a number of new faces over the coming months.

"Do we need to do a lot of business? Yes," Allardyce told reporters.

"Our recruitment has been put on hold because we didn't know which division we would be in. We have to catch up with those who have been safe for quite a while.

"But in the end as time goes by, we will be very thorough in what we do and make sure we make right decisions."

Sunderland spent 237 days in the relegation zone this season - only Southampton in 1998-99 have spent longer in the bottom three and still managed to avoid the drop.
