Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson says that the Whites should look to sign Tottenham Hotspur's Danny Rose.

Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson has said that the Whites should look to sign Danny Rose if the defender leaves Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer.

Rose was strongly linked with a move away from Jose Mourinho's side over the summer, but the transfer deadline passed with the 30-year-old still at the club.

The left-back has been left out of Tottenham's Premier League squad, though, and Spurs are said to be preparing to hold discussions over the possibility of terminating the Englishman's £70,000-a-week contract, which is due to expire next June.

Robinson has said that his former side's defensive injuries means that they should be keeping a close eye on the developments at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

"The contract situation will be resolved eventually and I would just like to see Danny Rose get out there and play football," Robinson told Football Insider. "I would take him at Leeds because obviously, there has been a number of defensive injuries.

"Leeds have had Stuart Dallas and [Ezgjan] Alioski playing there but to have someone like Danny Rose as part of the squad, on a free transfer, that would be a no brainer for anyone."

Rose is a product of the Leeds youth academy but never made a first-team appearance for the club.
