Tottenham Hotspur reportedly open talks with head coach Antonio Conte over a new contract, with his current deal set to expire next summer.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly opened talks with head coach Antonio Conte over a new contract.

The 53-year-old replaced Nuno Espirito Santo in the dugout in November last year and he successfully guided Spurs back into the Champions League after finishing fourth in the Premier League last season.

After being backed by Tottenham's hierarchy in the summer transfer window, recruiting seven players on permanent deals for a combined fee of around £150m, Conte now sees his side sitting third in this season's Premier League table and top of their Champions League group with a game to spare.

Although recent performances have been questioned by some sections of the club's fanbase, The Athletic reports that Spurs are in discussions with Conte over extending his contract.

The Italian's current deal expires next summer although Spurs are believed to have the option to extend it by a further 12 months.

The report adds that Tottenham are confident that Conte will agree fresh terms over a new deal with the club.

Conte's previous three managerial roles with Inter Milan, Chelsea and Italy saw him stay for no longer than two years, while his three-year stint in charge with Juventus between 2011 and 2014 is the longest of his coaching career.

Indeed, a potential reunion at Juve has been mooted for Conte in recent weeks, with one report claiming that the Serie A giants will look to sign Inter Milan's Alessandro Bastoni and Lazio's Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in an attempt to lure the Italian back to the club.

Massimiliano Allegri is currently in charge of the Old Lady, but his position in the dugout has recently come under threat following a poor start to the campaign.

However, Juve vice-president Pavel Nedved has denied rumours of replacing Allegri with Conte, while the Spurs boss has labelled the speculation as "disrespectful".

Speaking to reporters earlier this month, Conte said: "This is incredible. In this period I think this is disrespectful for the coach that works in Juventus and for me working in Tottenham.

"We have just started the season. Many times I have spoken about this topic and I've always said I'm happy and enjoying my time with Tottenham. We have the whole season to find the best solution for the club and for me, and for sure, I'm enjoying my time at Tottenham.

"I have a great relationship with the owner and [Fabio] Paratici (Spurs managing director of football). I don't see any problems at the moment in the future. We both signed the contract. I don't want to listen to someone speaking about this [speculation]."

Conte has managed 54 games in charge of Tottenham across all competitions, winning 31 times, drawing nine and losing 14.
