PFA weighs in on Brad Friedel, Tim Howard work permit saga

England's PFA releases a short statement revealing that it "did not receive any correspondence" from Tim Howard with regards to Brad Friedel's work permit.

Professional Footballers' Association chief executive Gordon Taylor has rejected Tim Howard's allegations that Brad Friedel attempted to sabotage his move to Manchester United.

Howard revealed in his soon-to-be published book The Keeper that compatriot Friedel attempted to block his work permit in 2003 by refusing to endorse his application.

It was claimed that the current Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper contacted the PFA, asking them to refuse his fellow American's request for a permit.

However, Taylor has rejected these claims, saying in a short statement: "With regard to the appeal by Manchester United on behalf of Tim Howard, which was successful, we have been asked to confirm that the PFA did not receive any correspondence from Brad Friedel in opposition of Tim Howard's work permit application."

Howard went on to join Man United from New York MetroStars for a fee of around $4m (£2.6m).
