Ledley King hails Mauricio Pochettino's influence on England side

Former Tottenham Hotspur and England defender Ledley King praises Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino for the impact that he has had on Roy Hodgson's Euro 2016 squad.

Former Tottenham Hotspur and England defender Ledley King has praised Mauricio Pochettino for the impact that he has had on Roy Hodgson's side.

No team has provided more players to England's 23-man squad for Euro 2016 than Spurs, with Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Kyle Walker and Danny Rose all making the cut.

All five are in contention for starting roles too despite none of them having been part of the England squad at the 2014 World Cup, and King believes that credit must go to Spurs boss Pochettino for their development.

"He's had a huge influence. Eric, for example, is someone who didn't particularly have a position, he couldn't nail down a position. He played a few games at centre-back, right-back and nobody saw him play him play in midfield. The manager has obviously seen something in him and felt he could do that job and he's been proven right," King told Squawka.

"With the full-backs, they've always been very dynamic going forward but they have improved a lot defensively. That's been a big positive on the team and I think because of their strengths and how well they've played this season they both stand a good chance of starting at the Euros because they are players that really seem to understand their role.

"Again, as I said with Eric, Tottenham have been a team that players know exactly what they're doing and what they have to do so there's no reason why the two full-backs won't start as well."

Spurs did not have a single representative in England's World Cup squad two years ago.
