Saints finished 16th in the top flight last season.

Southampton have promoted Dave Watson to first team assistant coach as part of a number of changes to Ralph Hasenhuttl's backroom staff.

Watson steps up from his position of goalkeeping coach with immediate effect, a role which has been taken on by Andrew Sparkes.

The Premier League club also announced in a statement that Craig Fleming has been made permanent first team assistant coach.

Fleming had been performing the job on an interim basis since the arrival of boss Hasenhuttl in December.

Kelvin Davis, who will continue in his role as first team assistant coach, will become a link to Southampton's senior academy players, ensuring those players are prepared for the first team.

Meanwhile, Matt Hale has been promoted to academy director and will oversee the development of all age groups from Under-eight to Under-23, with Ed Vahid taking the academy manager role previously held by Hale.

Chris Welman has been promoted to the role of head of academy recruitment at St Mary's, replacing Terry Burton who will remain a part of the academy scouting team.

Matthew Banks has joined the first team support staff as strength and conditioning coach, while Inigo Sarriegui joins the first team doctor's group, replacing Tham Wedatilake.
